1783 Washington Draped Bust Cent without Button Restrike in Copper Breen-1193. NGC graded Proof 66 Brown. CAC Approved. Very attractive light chocolate and olive brown with electric blue overtones in the fields. Mellowed mint color shows on 20% of the obverse and 10% of the reverse. The fields are reflective while the devices are frosty, which adds to the eye appeal. Very sharply struck on a flawless planchet. Essentially perfect. There is a fine double profile on the nose, lips, and chin. These restrikes were made circa 1860 by W. J. Taylor of London, and this one comes with a center-grained edge rather than a plain edge. Listed on page 80 in the "Redbook."

Lot 123
1783 Washington Token. Silver Restrike Draped EE. PCGS graded Proof 64. Nicely toned in netural shades of antique silver gray. Very bold strike from carefully prepared dies. Coins and tokens in this interesting series dated from 1783 to 1795 bear the portrait of George Washington. The likenesses in most instances were faithfully reproduced and were designed to honor the first president. Many of these were of English origin and were made later than their dates indicate.

The Engrailed Edge, Draped Bust silver restrikes of the 1783 token (similar in size to the other Washington pieces bearing the denomination ONE CENT) are especially desirable since most piece of this era were in copper or white metal, rarely silver. Scarce.
Pop 10; 6 finer (PCGS # 688) .
Estimated Value $3,000 - 3,500.
